How to provide eye comfort while having pink eye

Pink eye, also known as conjunctivitis, involves inflammation of the  thin lining inside the eyelids that is covering the white part of the  eye. The inflammation makes blood vessels more visible, giving the eye a  pink appearance. It can be due to infections or allergies.

Signs and symptoms:

  • Swelling of eye/s or puffy eyelids
  • Itching sensation
  • Pus formation/discharge that forms a crust on the eyelids
  • Redness
  • Irritation
  • Allergic conjunctivitis may also experience nasal discharge and sneezing

Ways to provide eye comfort:

  • wipe the eyes with a clean warm cloth
  • keep the eyes moisture by giving artificial tears
  • apply cold or warm cloth compress daily
  • stop wearing contact lenses

Conjunctivitis  is very contagious and can spread through direct or indirect contact.  It is very important take precaution and limit its spread. Seek an  ophthalmologist if you experience the symptoms for more than 2 weeks.

Prevention:

  1. Do not touch or rub your eyes
  2. Keep hands clean by proper hand washing or by using hand sanitizer
  3. Clean contact lenses properly
  4. Never share eye makeup
